Brain Health & Cognitive Wellness
Understanding Your Brain. Supporting Your Future.
Your brain health matters at every stage of life.
Changes in memory, concentration, mental clarity, and everyday thinking can raise questions and concerns. But cognitive health is about more than memory loss. It is also about understanding the many factors that influence how our brains function as we age.

Venita S. Welcome, MSCC, LPC
Experience, Compassion, and a Whole-Person Approach
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, MoCA-certified, ReCODE-trained, EMDR, and a Certified Brain Health Coach with more than 25 years of experience supporting mental and emotional wellness.
My work brings together counseling, brain health education, and preventive cognitive wellness. I recognize that our thinking, emotions, physical health, and life experiences are interconnected.
I believe caring for the brain begins with understanding the person. Whether you are noticing changes in your memory, experiencing brain fog, or simply want to be proactive about healthy aging, my goal is to help you better understand your concerns and explore meaningful ways to support your well-being.
Looking Beyond the Symptoms
Understanding What Shapes the Brain
Memory and thinking don’t change in isolation. Research increasingly shows that what we have lived through, especially chronic stress and unresolved trauma, is associated with how the brain functions over time.
Areas we may explore include:
Cognitive Screening: A brief, standardized screening (MoCA) to establish a baseline and track changes over time.
Brain Health Education: How memory, attention, and thinking work, and what supports or strains them as we age.
Contributing Factors: How sleep, stress, emotional health, and daily habits influence cognitive wellness.
Trauma and the Brain: How long-term stress and unresolved trauma can affect memory, focus, and emotional regulation, and why healing matters for brain health.
Supportive Interventions: Approaches that may include talk therapy, narrative work, EMDR, forgiveness work, contemplative practices, and storytelling in community.
The good news is that the brain can change and heal at any age. Informed by ReCODE training, my work focuses on the emotional and trauma-related factors that affect brain health. I work alongside physicians and other licensed professionals.
I’ve written a white paper on What the Body Remembers on how unresolved trauma affects the brain and nervous system, and why it may be an under-recognized factor in cognitive decline. If you’d like a copy, I’d be glad to share it.
What Does Working Together Look Like?
There is no one-size-fits-all approach to cognitive wellness. We begin with a free 15-minute call. Here is what a first session looks like: conversation about your concerns, health history, lifestyle, and personal goals.
Depending on your needs, our work may include:
Cognitive Wellness Education: Understanding the factors that influence memory, concentration, and brain health.
Preventive Brain Health Coaching: Exploring practical strategies involving sleep, movement, stress management, and everyday habits.
Mental and Emotional Wellness: Addressing stress, anxiety, trauma, and emotional experiences that may affect daily functioning.
Personalized Wellness Planning: Identifying realistic steps that support your individual goals.
Collaborative Care: Encouraging appropriate medical evaluation and coordination with healthcare professionals when needed.
The goal is not to overwhelm you with changes. It is to help you make informed choices, one manageable step at a time.
Prevention Is Part of the Conversation
You do not have to wait until you experience significant memory problems to begin caring for your brain.
Through personalized coaching, education, and practical lifestyle strategies, we explore ways to support cognitive resilience, emotional wellness, and healthy aging.
The emphasis is not on perfection. It is on making informed, sustainable choices that support your well-being.
Caring for Your Brain. Honoring the Whole Person.
Brain health is personal. Your history, experiences, concerns, and goals matter. Together, we can explore what it means to care for your cognitive health with knowledge, compassion, and hope.
Brain health coaching and ReCODE-informed services complement, but do not replace, appropriate medical evaluation, diagnosis, or treatment. Individual results vary, and no program can guarantee the prevention or reversal of cognitive decline.
A Welcoming Space for Everyone
My Christian faith shapes the compassion, dignity, and respect I bring to my work. However, my services are available to individuals of every faith tradition, as well as those who do not identify with a religious belief.
You are welcome as you are.
My approach begins with listening, understanding your concerns, and meeting you where you are in your personal health journey.
Making Wellness Care More Accessible
Through my practice, Christian Wellness Center of NJ, I accept Medicare and most commercial insurance plans for eligible, covered services.
Coverage for preventive brain health coaching and ReCODE-informed services varies by insurance plan and individual benefits. We can help you explore your coverage and discuss available payment options before services begin.
My goal is simple: to make cognitive and mental wellness care as accessible and affordable as possible.
Everyone deserves the opportunity to care for their brain health and emotional well-being.
